SAE Code 62 Flange (SAE J518)

Code 62 is the 6,000 psi SAE 4-bolt flange series — same O-ring-on-pad principle as code 61, with heavier heads and wider bolt patterns for high-pressure spiral-hose mains.

Identify it

Four checks at the bench.

  1. 01

Four-bolt split flange with a noticeably thick flange head

  2. 02

Measure head OD: larger than code 61 at the same nominal size

  3. 03

Bolt spacing matches the 62 chart, not 61

  4. 04

Typically found on excavator main circuits and high-tonnage presses

Don't confuse it with…

  • Code 61 hardware bolts up loosely to 62 pads on some sizes — a dangerous mismatch at 6,000 psi
  • Caterpillar-style flanges are a heavier proprietary pattern again

SAE Code 62 Flange (SAE J518) — FAQs

Can I use code 61 clamps on a code 62 head?

No. Dimensions and ratings differ; a mixed stack may assemble but won't hold rated pressure safely. Match the series on every component.

Does A1 stock flange clamps and bolts?

Yes — split flange halves, bolts, and O-rings for both series, alongside the hose heads.
