Thread identification
SAE O-Ring Boss — ORB (SAE J1926)
ORB is a port connection, not a hose union: a straight UNF thread with an O-ring that seals against a chamfered spotface on the port. It's the correct, leak-free way into SAE ports on pumps, valves, and cylinders.
Identify it
Four checks at the bench.
- 01
Straight UNF thread with an O-ring sitting above the threads on a shoulder
- 02
Mating port has a machined chamfer/spotface, no taper
- 03
Same nominal thread sizes as JIC — the O-ring is the tell
- 04
Adjustable versions carry a locknut and backup washer
Don't confuse it with…
- JIC male threads measure identically — but a JIC male in an ORB port seals on nothing and leaks at the threads
- NPT in an ORB port destroys the port chamfer

SAE O-Ring Boss — ORB (SAE J1926) — FAQs
My pump port thread matches JIC but leaks — why?
It's an ORB port. It needs the O-ring boss form with its ring — a plain JIC male has no sealing surface for the port. We stock ORB in every dash size.
How do I install an adjustable ORB elbow?
Back the locknut off, thread in until the washer contacts, position the elbow (up to one turn back), then tighten the locknut to spec.
