Hose specification
SAE 100R12 — 4-Spiral
SAE 100R12 is four-spiral hose rated 4,000 psi working pressure across most sizes, built for the impulse cycling that fatigues braid hose. It's the entry point to spiral construction for high-duty pressure lines.
Working pressure
Ratings by size.
| Size | Working pressure |
|---|---|
| -8 (1/2") | 4,000 psi |
| -10 (5/8") | 4,000 psi |
| -12 (3/4") | 4,000 psi |
| -16 (1") | 4,000 psi |
| -20 (1-1/4") | 3,000 psi |
Working pressures per the published standard with 4:1 minimum burst safety factor. The assembled hose + fitting combination governs the final assembly rating.

SAE 100R12 — 4-Spiral — FAQs
Why spiral instead of adding more braid?
Spiral plies lay wire at an angle that shares impulse load evenly and flexes without the braid's self-abrading crossovers — that's why spiral hose survives million-cycle impulse tests.
Do spiral hoses need special fittings?
Yes — interlock-style ends that mechanically grip the spiral plies. Braid-hose ends on spiral hose are a blow-off waiting to happen.
