Hose specification
SAE 100R2 / EN 853 2SN
SAE 100R2 is the two-wire-braid workhorse for hydraulic pressure lines — roughly double R1's rating at every size, from 5,800 psi at -4 to 2,400 psi at -16. If a mobile machine has one hose type on it, it's usually R2.
Working pressure
Ratings by size.
| Size | Working pressure |
|---|---|
| -4 (1/4") | 5,800 psi |
| -6 (3/8") | 4,785 psi |
| -8 (1/2") | 4,000 psi |
| -10 (5/8") | 3,625 psi |
| -12 (3/4") | 3,125 psi |
| -16 (1") | 2,400 psi |
Working pressures per the published standard with 4:1 minimum burst safety factor. The assembled hose + fitting combination governs the final assembly rating.

SAE 100R2 / EN 853 2SN — FAQs
R2 or R12 — which do I need?
Check the circuit's working pressure and impulse duty. Steady circuits within R2's size rating are fine on R2; high-impulse or higher-pressure circuits (most modern excavator mains) want spiral hose.
Is EN 853 2SN the same as SAE 100R2AT?
Functionally interchangeable — 2SN is the European designation with matching construction and near-identical ratings.
